Any advice on increasing protein and reducing sugar carbs?

Hi everyone! My name is Michelle and I have been battling stage 4 breast cancer since July 2013. I also have been diagnosed with celiac disease.
Lately, I've been seeing an acupuncturist. She suggested I cut out processed sugar out of my diet and keep my net carbs down to 120 grams a day.
Has anyone else gone through this or point me in the right direction towards the right foods to eat? Thank you very much in advance

If you just watched your refined carbs (breads, baked goods etc.) and ate more whole foods, and higher protein foods (either animal or plant based) you'd probably be fine. 120 isn't very low at all.
So, for plant foods with protein: legumes, tofu etc.
And for animal foods: meat etc.0 -
I have a scoop of Isopure zero carb protein powder ( I prefer the alpine punch or banana creme flavors) First I put the scoop into a large glass and add a cup of tap water (or room temp bottled water) (and stir the powder with the room temp water. using the room temp water allows the powder to dissolve better. Then I add a cup of cold water and a cup of ice. I get 25 grams of protein, no carbs and 1 gram of fat in a nice cold drink, and it doesn't have that fun aspertame type aftertaste either.0

Agreed that 120 grams a day isn't that hard to do, all meats are good for protein and no carbs (of course depending on how you cook them). Be careful with starchy veggies like potatoes, carrots, corn; white flour; legumes; sugar period (being in foods or drinks). Greens, cabbage, brusel sprouts, cauliflour, avocado, spinach, green beans are all low carb veggies. Also you could join a LC group to get help from others.0

Metagenix has a line of super low carb and sugar alcohols. You can use their protein shakes or meal replacements or protein bars. Double check to see if they have gluten.
Everything else everyone said sounds good too. Snack on nuts, greek yogurt.0 -
FWIW, I've had 93 grams of protein, thus far, today without the aid of protein powders. I'll likely have a bit more. Easily over 100 grams. Without powders, bars, supplements. Just by eating FOOD. To me, that's plenty.

If you're looking for some high protein snack ideas, you could try shrimp with cocktail sauce, greek yogurt, cottage cheese, etc.
If you are looking for a protein powder, Trutein is gluten free, and the cinnabun flavour is delicious! I think you can order a free sample from bodynutrition's (the manufacturer) website. Other flavours that are good from them are the vanilla and banana.
If you're looking just to cut back on carbs with meals, you can substitute riced cauliflower for regular rice.0 -
I try to eat protein rich foods like chicken, fish, and beans at meal times, but if I find I'm low on protein at the end of the day, I'll have a protein powder drink. My preferred powder is Gold Standard, but I'm out at the moment so using Six Star (30 g protein, 0 carb, 0 fat). If you go the protein powder route, you want to be sure to use a good one that is the right mix for you. Some are gluten free, some are not. Google "protein powder reviews" and you'll get millions of hits. Just be sure to stay away from the manufacturers' websites. Funny thing, but their products are always rated best. LOL
