Does anybody use either one of these sites? If so I was interested in using one or both myself because someone recommended it to me. What do you guys think of these two sites? Informative? Good or bad? I guess Ive never really looked into them so I want everyone's opinion before I jump at them! Thank you

ScoobysWorkshop has some pretty harsh criticisms for Bodybuilding.com. Here's what they say:

"I am inducing their whole company into my Fitness Hall of Shame for their continued pushing of untested supplements and their incredible greed. The FDA fined bodybuilding.com $7,000,000 for selling laced supplements but its still cheaper for them to just pay the hand slap fines than it is to test the products they sell to insure they are safe."

Here is the FDA's page on their suit:
    http://www.fda.gov/ICECI/CriminalInvestigations/ucm305494.htm

All of this being said, I'm not sure about the exercise advice they give. I've heard good things from people, but I've also heard of them spreading "woo" philosophies about fitness. This is all hearsay, I realize.

ETA: Here's the Scoobys link if you want to read the whole review

Why don't you join and find out? It's not like there's any obligation to stay.

I have a profile on Bodybuilding.com. I'm not on there that much but I read some of the articles and I like browse the forums. I think they have some good workout plans.

Why join? Why not just go to the site as a non-member and read what articles are on there? I frequently end up on both sites (depending on what i am looking for) to research a specific topic. I also like http://running.competitor.com/ & http://runnersconnect.net/blog/

Runners World? Yeah, I read that sometimes (the magazine and the website).

Bodybuilding.com reminds me of an issue of Muscle and Fitness from the 90's. Full of roids built bodies with advice that would never work in a million years designed for one goal; Sell their junk.

A slightly better lifting site is JP Fitness. Still some 'bro science' but nearly as bad as the other site.

I agree. The only reason to join is if you want to participate in a forum/message board or use the site for logging your exercise. (Not sure if the running site has a logging feature but bodybuilding.com does.)

I use bodybuilding.com to log my exercise. I also read the female bodybuilding boards and sometimes the over 35 board. I've looked at their articles a bit and tend to look up form videos for new exercises there but I've never followed any of their lifting plans.

Hmm not a bad idea. Thank you for the heads up! No difference between joining and being a nonmember ? Thank you for also sharing the other site, I will definitely check it out.

I don't log my exercise here. I use bb for logging exercise because I find it easy to use and like the graphs, total weight lifted, etc info that it provides. At the beginning of each of my lifting cycles I print out my 3-4 week plan and when I'm actually lifting I scribble on it. After each workout I log it online. At the end of the cycle I stick the printout in a binder that's by my weights. If I want to look up a pr for a certain weight I can get to it easily. My Internet access in the basement is spotty so it's faster to look things up on the fly that way.

JP FITNESS haha that was such a blast from the past for me. Thanks for posting it. I think they got started on the menshealth.com forums about 10 years ago. Back then it was all about Lou Schuler's Testisterone Advantage Plan. Looks like they are still in pretty heavy with the new rules of lifting.

I use Runnersworld.com frequently (and subscribe to the magazine), it's got useful training tips, product reviews and articles of interest to runners. Can't comment on bodybuilding.com - don't think I've visited it as I'm not interested in bodybuilding but I have used scoobysworkshop.com for information on strength training

I read a lot of articles on runnersworld. They have great information on different types of training, preventing and treating injuries, etc. I never "joined" though. I'm not a member...I just show up and read on occasion.

The ONLY good things about bodybuilding.com:
-Bodyspace app for tracking workouts. Lots of graphs, training summaries, etc. that are pretty nice to have
-Cheap supps. Like better prices than anyplace else. Sometimes they will toss out promos as big as 30%, which is very nice.

Other than that, stay far, far away from the forums; it's a cesspool in there. Worse than 4chan or similar trolling sites.

No experience with Runners World, sorry.

Yeah, The Misc part of the forum on BB.com is brilliant. Love those guys lol.

I might be missing something, but the advice given at Runnersworld would pertain to running, a cardiorespitory (aerobic) exercise, whereas a majority of the information at BB.com would pertain to strength training (anaerobic). I would imagine, since the goals of each are completely opposite, the information would differ greatly. And, with any information you read on the Internet, studying up on a specific subject would allow you to discern what's accurate versus whats not. However, BB.com articles, for the most part, are garbage, but the forums provide real information if you can soft through the marketing.

Bodybuilding.com has one thing going for it, and that's the videos of various exercises. Helpful if you aren't sure or need a visual on movement.

I don't think there can really be a "vs." here...two completely different sites with completely different information. I personally prefer T-Nation to BB.com, but I'm not a member...i just use the site...you don't have to be a member to use a website.

I'm fond of the Running Room as they got me running. The classes were friendly and helpful. I can find out about upcoming events through their site.
