So this site says I have 5 activity calories but my step tracker says I burned 99 so far...that's a huge spread. Of course I will go by the smaller of the numbers to be safe but feeling a bit frustrated

Device counting burning calories are notoriously inaccurate. MFP usually overestimate burned calories. That is why it is better to eat back up to 50% of the burned calories reported. I use TDEE target that already include my exercise level: one number for when I work out and another when I do not workout.
Good luck with your healthy journey0 -

What activity tracker are you using?
Have you checked your exercise diary for the math behind it? (from app you have to tap it and from the webpage click the little "i")
For devices like Fitbit and Garmin, the adjustment is a calorie burn comparison. MFP already estimates you will burn a certain number of calories based on your activity level setting and your stats. With these devices you only get an adjustment when your calorie burn is higher than MFP's. Example:
MFP says I should burn 1850
Fitbit calorie burn from yesterday 2195
2195 - 1850 = 345 calorie adjustment0 -
It's a Garmin vivofit that I have...Thank you that makes sense0
