    I guess to answer the question, it depends on who you have on your friends list. For example, if you're a happily married woman and your husband doesn't like the idea of you having male friends, you may either want to use it strictly as a fitness site or make friends with other women you know in the real world. Nothing wrong with that. Or if you hate the idea of making friends with people online and you use it strictly to record food and exercise, nothing wrong with that either. However, if you're single like me and you don't mind making friends with strangers and you have a bit more freedom to add whoever you want, as long as you don't cross any lines, nothing wrong with that either. But in the end, all of us will still have to show some kind of discretion. The short answer is, "it depends."
