Does anyone have any experience with IIFYM? I've looked into it, and I'd be upping my calories and that makes me nervous! However, from what I've read online, people have fantastic results. I'd love to hear of others' experiences with this program.

IIFYM doesn't really give you any results... that's from the caloric deficit (assuming this because you're in the weight loss section). IIFYM is just another way of eating what you want, while losing weight so you don't have to restrict yourself and increase the probability of burning and crashing.

Basically - hit your micronutrient goals, hit your macronutrient goals, enjoy what you want.

Too many people get it confused with stuffing donuts and chocolate bars in your face every day; it's not that.

IIFYM is a concept that simply manages macro intake along with caloric intake. that website is not IIFYM...it's simply capitalizing on the concept...the website is just another TDEE calculator. you're getting increased calories because TDEE calculators include exercise as part of your activity estimate whereas MFP does not...with MFP you're supposed to track exercise separately and log it and that's why you get calories to eat back. done properly, the methods are 6 of 1.

IIFYM is simply an eating concept that doesn't demonize certain foods or groups of foods and doesn't require you to restrict certain things from your diet...so long as IIFYM. Keep in mind also that macros are not a universal thing...the "Y" in IIFYM is important.

Thank you. That's good to know. I enjoy eating what I want to within my calorie limit. It seems much easier than counting macros. I'll just stay with what I'm doing!

I think I'd have a nervous breakdown If I had to get my macros just right. Calorie counting seems so much easier, I watch my calories and to a lesser extent my protein, fat and carbs. If I don't hit the latter everyday, then so be it.

This! Please do not think that the website has anything to do with the creation of IIFYM. The concept has existed for decades. They didn't even come up with the acronym. Someone simply purchased the domain and put up a website their. The concept of IIFYM was originally referred to as flexible dieting. It simply takes MFP's approach 1 step further. The main approach of MFP is to get a calorie total, log your food, and eat under that calorie total while factoring in exercise after the fact. IFFYM would have you not only establish a calorie total but also a protein, carbohydrate, and fat total. You would also factor in exercise in before hand, not after like MFP. There are a million calculators and estimators and they will all very. The one on the IIFYM website is actually quite poor in my opinion as it usually has individual eating FAR more protein than necessary. Especially if they are overweight/obese. The website also advise you hit all 3 macros close to perfect every day. This is NOT flexible dieting. A more relaxed approach would be to hit protein and fat minimums each day and spend the remaining calories on anything you want. I go into detail about this approach in a video series I did on YouTube if you are interested. It is only slightly more involved then the standard MFP approach but the potential benefits are worth it IMO. Video series is here: http://goo.gl/zqIv6H

@vismal - a few months ago I watched your video How to Calculate Calories and Macros for an IIFYM Fat Loss Diet and do recommend it for those who are new to and interested in IIFYM. Like you said, IIRC, if you take care of protein and fat, the carbs will take care of themselves. For me, the fat takes care of itself as well :)
