I want to start lifting weights but I'm clueless

Little bit of info - I've recently returned from a 2 week holiday where I didn't concentrate to much on my fitness. Before I left I was doing insanity for around 4 weeks and before that I had done 30 day shred.

I am a 23 year old female, 5"4 and weighing 140lb and am currently eating 1550 calories.

I have however got to the point where cardio no longer seems to be helping - I was stuck at 140lb for at least 3 months.

I knew when I got back from my holiday that I wanted to start weight lifting but I have no idea what to do.

should I go to the gym and do 10 reps on each machine, or 3 sets or 10 on arms ect - I'm honestly clueless

Please help!

Thanks

Recently I've been following the workout regimen on www.muffin-topless.com. Her summer challenge is divided into three separate levels, and you progress to the next level after a month. If you don't know how to do a certain exercise, www.bodybuilding.com has a portion of their website dedicated to showing you how to perform hundreds of exercises with good form. I highly recommend you look at both of them, and don't be afraid to lift heavy! Good luck.

If you google "tumblrgym", they have a program called Yes, I Lift! for 99c. On the right side at the bottom of the list is a purchase link. It's the very basics of lifting using dumbbells, but I've been doing it for 2 months, and I like it! I didn't gain a ridiculous amount of muscle, but it hasn't been long. It's a good place to start, anyway! Especially if you're strapped for cash.

Try www.bodybuilding.com. There are workouts, databases, etc. of exercises and programs that you can emulate. There are also instructional videos on how to do each one. Good luck.

Try a program like starting strength or stronglifts that are for beginners who haven't even touched a barbell. You'll build some lean mass, and get a base of strength for whatever program you would like to move onto next.

Don't feel bad. There are lots of people who actually lift weights who are clueless on how to do them correctly.

There are lots of programs with videos that accompany them. But realistically I would see a professional to help you set up a program to reach your personal goals.
