Food does not bring me pride. It's nutrients for me to accomplish my goals. I enjoy cooking. I enjoy having other people enjoy eating food I've lovingly made for them. But the answer to my self esteem or loneliness or whatever emotion is not food.

I get self esteem from setting goals and accomplishing them. I get self esteem from seeing the people I've mentored excel. I might get a bit of self esteem from fitting into pants I haven't worn for a few years, but that's because I know the steps I've taken to reach that point were all healthy choices not binging or purging or punishing my body in some other way, like withholding food when it's hungry.

I've tried to decouple love/esteem/comfort from food. It's helped me.

The game I play is that I'll decide I want something but not eat it until I've eaten what's good for me. Usually I'll end up not indulging.

Except this poster is talking about holding off on eating eggs because she wants to feel her hunger and considers that winning.

Not the same as waiting to eat a cookie until you've eaten your broccoli.

Perhaps winning was a poor choice of words and if I read it like that I see where you are coming from. I guess I think of things as winning and losing, success or failure never really thought about it. If I succeed I win success to me right now is eating healthy and if it means holding off a hour or half hour to eat than that is I guess what I will do. I really am just spacing out meals so I can eat more when I am hungriest at night when I am home Fasting is not an option for me so I eat my 3 meals and then sometimes a snack I just prefer it all a little later in the day so being hungry in the morning and waiting till I really want it works. I guess my analogy about my grumbling stomach would be alarming but I actually ate about 10 and had 2 scrambled eggs and bacon very very yummy and filling.
Thank you all for your reply's and those who have reached out other ways. I appreciate it very much.

I think the point the poster was trying to make is that we have become so accustomed to having to feel full or at least be satisfied that we don't even know what truly being hungry feels like...we eat because we are bored or for some other reason but not when we are truly hungry. I think taking a moment to pause and reflect for a second isn't a reason for concern. (That being said, I am not familiar with the other posts by OP that some of the others are referencing)

I'm sure it is but if I was to fast I am afraid I would just stop eating for like a week.

This is horrible advice to give someone with an eating disorder.

Past tense and not everyone was around 6 months ago. Honestly very surprised that anyone remembers me at all. A lot has changed since then

Well now I just finished supper. It is 8:30 and I am stuffed. So I ate at 10ish. 2:30 and 8. I am stuffed and satisfied and exactly where I planned to be. I feel if I give in and eat breakfast earlier than it will throw off the rest of my meals and those times are actually that way because that's when I have time. Just giving an update for no reason actually but I hate to have people think I am lot eating.

If you're hungry, why wouldn't you eat them?

Just wanted to wait. See if it is real hunger I guess if I eat to early then I am so hungry for lunch at 11 and that just does not work because dinner is always late. I win if I can last a bit without eating because it makes the day easier to manage. Does that make sense?
