Hi, I'm Joe and I live in Belfast, Northern Ireland.
I am 62 yrs old and I was seriously overweight.
All my life I had been super fit doing numerous sports as well as long distance running.
After a serious brain virus 18 yrs ago, I lost my memory completely and it took about 4 - 5 yrs to start coming back.
During that time, and since then, the weight has piled on.
I am a Type 2 Diabetic, and for years I was controlling it by diet alone.
I then went on to meds and finally Insulin.
My sugar levels were through the roof and the Doctor was increasing my Insulin dosage week after week.
It was at this time that I told myself that I had to do something to get this under control.
8 weeks ago I came upon the Paelo diet online.
I researched it and thought that this is what I had been hoping for all those wasted years.
My start weight was 19st 12lbs. (278lbs).
I also have Fibromyalgia so I knew that exercise was out of the question, at least at the start.
I LOVE the diet, I have never ate so much, nor so much delicious fresh food including fruit, vegetables and lean meat.
In 8 weeks my weight has dropped to 17st 6lbs, that's a loss of 34lbs.
Besides the weight loss my very bad Acid Reflux has disappeared totally, I feel so much more alert even with all the meds I take, and whilst I can't exercise very much, I can manage short strolls a few times a day.
On the day I started the Paelo Diet my sugar levels were through the roof, the very next day they dropped down to normal and have remained that way since.
I have also been able to cut my Insulin Units by more than 1/2.
My large inflated stomach (years of Diet Coke), disappeared in a matter of days.
For the first time in years, I feel in control of my own life again and I am aiming to get down to the weight I was before my brain virus.
I wish I had heard of this diet years ago.
NONE of my healthcare team had ever heard of it, but they could see the massive change in me.
They are all researching it now to see if it would benefit other Diabetics, they have even asked me if I would be willing to sit in a few meetings to answer any questions.
Sorry for such a long intro, but I just wanted to share my success, so far.
I will write again when I have returned to the weight I was before numerous injuries left me unable to look after myself.
Please keep your fingers crossed for me.
