why am I gaining weight

I am in my 4th week, first 3 weeks going well. 1 day I ate over my 1400 allocation most other days I have been under. The first 3 weeks I lost 6lb, but now I am gaining weight. Quite quickly. 2lb in 2 days! I am thinking are my scales broken ! But I am not losing. I log everything and weigh everything. No little extras at all. Any advice?

Probably water. Use a trending chart to be able to tell. See my example in my philosophy post.

If it turns out not to be temporary, then you're eating too much. But it's far more likely to be water than fat.

Weight loss is not linear. Even when you eat a deficit, you won't always lose weight. Rapid gains or losses are usually due to changes in your water weight. When your body gets a high dose of sodium (one example), it retains more water than normal. This increases your weight temporarily till your sodium level goes down and the water is released.

Your weight will fluctuate up and down every now and then. Overall the line should be downward if you eat less calories than you burn. But it won't be an absolutely straight line.

If you are confident in your logging, then it is most likely just water weight. It fluctuates constantly. I can easily fluctuate by five pounds between weigh-ins, and I weigh every morning.

Don't compare your daily weight. Be more focused on the weekly weight. That is more likely to show if you are losing or not.

Normal weight variation can be up to 5lbs a day. if you've started exercising you could possibly be retaining more water (which is normal). High sodium meal might make you retain water. You might have normal hormones variation leading to weight gain in your TOM...
You seem confident that you are weighing carefully and logging everything correctly so I wouldn't worry about that just now. Everybody will tell you that weight loss is not linear. Trust the process; keep on doing what you are doing and forget the scale for one week... No need to change or reassess or doubt yourself so soon

Don't weigh yourself daily unless you are 100% comfortable and understanding of the daily fluctuations! :)

Stick with weekly weigh-in's (same time of day, same day)! The reason why I don't weigh daily is because seeing the fluctuations annoy me despite knowing that they are totally, totally to be expected.
