scuba diving and calories?

So how many calories do you think you really burn scuba diving?

MFP says 747 for 110 minutes of diving. Seems like too many. Does anyone have an alternate source for calories burned while scub diving?

We were diving off a boat in the Caribbean. You just fall off the boat and float around. It's beautiful but doesn't seem like that much work. I'm sure that you burn some calories staying warm.

There are a couple of threads about this over on scubaboard.com but the truth is there are way too many variables involved to get a really general kind of number.

I could see 700ish calories for close to 2 hrs of diving in the St Lawrence on a day when there's a bit more current (and you're not doing a drift) and you're humping heavier gear to the dive site etc etc.......on the other hand a nice drift in the clear warm waters at Cozumel isn't going to burn a whole lot.

I know there are a couple of dive computers out there that can be hooked up to a HRM chest strap but I suspect it's more for just tracking heart-rate rather than calories burned. (A Garmin 910 may be worn swimming but I don't think they'd stand up at depth  )
