How much weight will I gain after binging for 3 days in a row?

I ate 5500 calories the first 2 days and 4055 calories today. I really hope this doesn't continue because the guilt is consuming me. How much weight should I expect to gain? My maintenance is 1580 calories which is what I've been eating for the past few weeks except for this one. I've been struggling with the binge-starve cycle for a year now. Anybody know how to get rid of this for good?

I wouldn't worry too much. A pound of fat is 3500 calories, and you ate 9555 calories, which averages out to 2.73 lbs. However, that doesn't take into account your BMR. Taking your burn into account (I assume you burn about 2000 cals. a day based on your deficit), you gained a pound and a half--max--of fat. That's nothing; you could recover that deficit in a week with some effort, or over two weeks easily.

All weight loss is really about trends. If your weight has gone down over the last year (even with peaks and valleys), you're moving in the right direction. To stop binge eating is a difficult question; does your binging come from external stressors (work, school, family) or are you actually hungry (i.e. not eating enough, causing physical stress?). If the former, I'd suggest a good counselor and a good friend to talk through those life problems and develop coping skills. If the latter, decrease your deficit a bit. I could never survive on 1200 calories a day, but by exercising a bit every day, I don't have to.

If you feel unable to stop it on your own then seek help. Yours is not an uncommon problem and there is help out there if you want it.

Otherwise you must make the decision to stop. You are the only one that can stop it because you are the one doing it. You can stop. Don't hope it stops, make it stop. Be strong. Take control.
