Anybody else having success dropping pounds just by eating right? I have lost 16 pounds as of today and I started eating right exactly a month ago. I eat oatmeal for breakfast(130 calories), a salad for lunch (about 300 calories), and then for supper it's almost always one baked chicken breast with about 6 triscuit crackers and two wedges of laughing cow cheese(no iDea what that is for calories).....sometimes more for supper. I started out at 253 and have lost just over 16lbs. I'm a 6'1" male and 26 years old. Am I just dropping "easy" weight right now and should probably expect a plateau soon? Oh and that diet is only monday-friday. I drink like a fish on the weekends and eat whatever I want. Anyone else having similar results without exercise?

Yes, I think you'll find most people agree that weight loss is primarily achieved through diet control.

Exercise can help and is important for overall health & fitness, but our weight is guided by our diet.
  • I'm not exercising more than I normally do at my lightly active job as an IT guy (walking from office to office, carrying computers). I biked maybe 20-40km a week before I got lazy and gave it up when the weather turned.

If you continue to eat at a deficit, you will continue to lose. Exercise is for health, but has nothing to do with weight loss, except that it increases the calories out side of the equation.

At our size (6'6", 300lbs starting weight) we can drop weight easier than a small person because, in my case, my 2lbs/week deficit daily intake was 2100calories to start. That's a reasonable amount of food, and if you don't blow it on candy and chips, is a reasonably filling day.

That will get harder as I pare down to my goal weight of 250lbs, but if I keep eating a deficit, i will keep losing, without having to bust my *kitten* at the gym. I will continue biking, and increase my weekly distances as the weather gets better (next spring), because I enjoy it and it keeps my stamina levels up for other stuff.

I also have just started watching my diet and calorie/macro intake.
And so far down 6lbs. And it's been a couple weeks.
Haven't changed my exercising much at all.
Within the month I will be adding exercise. I think with more exercise comes quicker weight loss than just diet. But definitely a diet change you will lose weight.

I exercise - however, my mum lost over 100 lbs a few years ago without exercise, it can be done!
A calorie deficit is all that's required for weight loss :)

Having said that, If you can introduce exercise - it's not a bad idea! It gives you definition, helps with fitness and makes you feel fantastic.

If you want to be healthy AND a healthy weight, you should probably do both.
