Hi all, I'm buying an exercise bike this weekend and wondered if they are good for buring calories and toning.

It's like anything else, you get back what you put into it.

I run & I ride and cycling can be a great way to get into shape and, assuming you eat at a deficit, help shed the pounds. If your exercise bike has a built in calorie estimator you should be aware that they (like many treadmills) tend to over-estimate the calories burned.

    Have fun!

Spend a lot of time on bike; eat fewer calories than you burn each day, you'll lose weight and improve fitness.

Personally I'd rather ride (or run) outside myself. Same benefit, changing scenery!

I'd much rather be outside too and I am a lot. I walk 5 to 6 miles a day. But winter is coming soon so I was looking for something I can do inside when it's dark out. I will continue to walk 2 miles at lunch, no matter what the weather.

So, I went to a garage sale and bought an Airwaves Exercise bike. Does anyone have any experience with one of these?
