So, this is a post about the dreaded lower belly pooch.
I have been in pretty good shape as a lady and gotten to a pretty low body fat.. probably around 12% BUT no matter what I do... I still have the freaking pooch!!!

Anyone had any experiences with banishing this unwelcome lower belly guest??
I know you can't spot reduce, but if I continue my training and persist will it eventually go die in a hole? Or am I destined to carry this little friend of mine for the rest of my days??

Input would be appreciated.

You sure you're at 12% body fat? I can't imagine a woman being that low and still having any significant amount of abdominal fat.

I'm not 12% anymore.. at the time I was 12% it was taken by a biokineticist and I literally had no fat anywhere except in that area... had the top 4 abs on display but then this little bump... like a fold I guess... just never been totally flat?

It probably won't ever go away for you then. I don't have anything that resembles a belly pouch and my body fat is much higher than 12 percent. Might be genetics, weak abdominals (unless it's just a fat roll?)?

Mmmm, maybe the body fat was taken incorrectly.. It was done using the 3 sight skin fold method.. so guess it never took everything into consideration...

Regardless... I guess I'm just gonna keep on keeping on and see how it plays out.

I have it. Honestly, if I can just get it down to a tiny bump and a four pack, I'll be all right with that. Last year when I was 10-15 pounds lighter than I am now, it was significantly smaller. So I have some hope.

If it's fat, it will disappear as you lose weight. If it's extra skin, it's yours for life unless you have it removed.

I will always have a little pooch. I don't even care. So, I'll stand up! :)

When I compete in bodybuilding competitions I have very low fat. That means visible abs. The bottom of my stomach pokes out slightly due to how my hips tilt. 3 site calipers is not that accurate. 7 site or 9 site are more standard and more accurate. I'm guessing your body fat was higher than 12% and you may have a pelvic tilt issue.

I got the pooch. Would love said pooch to flatten out a bit but until it does, I'll just keep plugging along with my dieting and exercising.

I guess pooch isn't the correct word... basically my stomach is flat around the pelvis area and then there's like a line where you can see my stomach starts... just wondering if it would ever be totally flat and continuous... If that makes sense. Check my profile pic.

Maybe, like one of the other posters mentioned.. its my posture...

It really isn't bad.. but I'd like to compete on stage next year, so I'd like it to be flat as possible...

Thanks. The difference in the bottom pics is amount of bloating. I still have a bit of a pooch. When I'm not bloated its almost nonexistent (August pic), but when I'm bloated it looks worse (like tonight, the other 2 pics..and being that close doesn't help either).

I think it has to do with genetics. I remember being little and my classmates teasing me for my pooch ): So I've had it for as long as I can remember. Bleh!

And I had major surgery back in about 1991 which left me with a huge vertical scar right up the middle of my pooch. That scar never healed into a nice neat thin line ... it's quite wide, lumpy, and uneven. Before that, when my weight dropped down close to the bottom of my normal BMI scale, I had a nice flat abdomen. Since then, even when I've been quite thin, and even when I've been working out my core and have decent abdominal muscles, I've never had a nice flat abdomen. It has always been poochy.

Is anyone considering that it's thier Amentum? This is the naturally occuring pad of fat on the belly that will protect the belly from knocks during pregnancy. It is there all the time whether you have been pregnant or not- and it is bigger in some people than others. Hourglass shapes tend to have larger amentums.

I know that when I was very underweight i still had a prominent pad of fat (also my psoture did'nt help). My Mother had one too even when she was at a very low weight/ body fat with cancer. The only time she had a flat stomach was when the surgeon cut out her amentum during her hysterectomy as it had cancer cells in it.

It's part of being a women- and as i said it's bigger in some women than others. You win some , you lose some. You accept the little things like this and focus on the great things about your body (at least i do and I think others should)

With no success I briefly searched the internet for a website to link you to that I found in the past... if you're interested I could search harder. However I eliminated my lower stomach problem after consistently practicing several core moves, some involving a kettleball (I used a 10lb "kettle purse"). I'm a cardioholic but that had never tightened my lower stomach much until I added these moves...

    Turkish get-up roll
    Plank up/downs
    Suitcase deadlift
    Kettleball swing
...there are 2 more I can't recall the names tho!

End note: try incorporating strength moves for your core. I saw the results I wanted after a few short weeks.

    Best of luck (:

Never actually heard of this.. Very interesting!

I think I'm gonna donate mine to someone else though, I'm a school teacher and so I have more than enough kids to want my own!! :)

Very interesting though, amazing how we are built to accomodate and adapt to things that may come!

That depends on genetics and is no way universal.
