Ankle inflammation after running?

I went running around 4pm yesterday. Was normal interval running for me. I didn't notice any pain while working out. Then at around 10pm I started feeling pain in my left ankle. This morning it was horrible.it feels much better with ibuprofen.
Just wondering what this might be? And when could I get back to working out? I have a new friend who can bring me to her gym any time and I'd like to be able to do that soon. I've never had an "injury" before so I don't know what to expect.

I wouldn't dare offer an opinion as to when you should go back to running, but if you have access to a gym, now is a great time to try some exercise you can do while injured, like rowing.0

Keep an eye on it. If it doesn't get any better soon, I would definitely go see a doctor if you can(just to make sure it isn't a serious injury). Take your time with the healing. If you go back too soon, the injury will keep you out longer. Sorry about your injury though.0
