Why not take a rest? Better for you, and if you're going to a gym, possibly others who need to use the same equipment. I do work out with a little cold though as long as I don't feel too bad.

If it's just a cold, meh. Honestly I found that my workouts made me feel better when I was sick, versus sitting on my butt all day.

A chest cold is different than head cold.

Bronchitis can become serious if you are in the mist of it, you don't want to be coughing mucas for months if it does. I've always been told that if you are sick below the neck stay home. Exercise raises your body tempature so if you have any kind of fever it will become worse. You also don't want to make anyone else sick if you are going to a gym. Bronchitis is a virus and easy to catch. If the weather is cold where you are that makes it even worse after exercising because of you sweating and the cold air hitting you after the warm gym. Take care of yourself, Hope that helps :)

When it's just a head cold, it's okay to workout. I actually find that cardio helps relieve any congestion I have.

When it's a chest cold, best just to rest. A chest cold can turn into bronchitis (which takes forever to get over...seriously, I'm just getting over it myself and it sucks) and if your not careful bronchitis can become pneumonia.

If you go to a gym, skip it until you are better. It's selfish to spread your illness.

That being said, I also have strong opinions about exercise when you feel ill. Especially if you are cutting calories to lose weight.

Think of it this way, imagine your body is you at work. You have your daily routine of jobs you need to get through. Eating at a deficit is like you doing all your normal jobs, as well as some extra paperwork that also needs to get done every day because you are working towards a promotion. Working out is like another load of paperwork that will help you get your promotion faster. It's a lot to do in a day.

Now when you are sick it's like you have to do all your normal jobs, the extra paperwork and now two other people in your office aren't in and you have to pick up their jobs too. Everything must get done everyday.

Imagine how stressed you would feel. Logical thing is to put the 'promotion work' on hold. So eat at maintenance and rest!

Really depends on what you mean by working out. I definitely wouldn't go for any intense cardio workout but I don't see why you couldn't do some lifting or maybe a walk. Don't spread your illness, though. If you are coughing a lot I would avoid public spaces.

Head cold, suck it up. Chest cold, rest. Trust me, working out with a chest cold can set you back way more. Take a few recovery days now or you may be forced to take a lot more later.

    Hope you're feeling better soon!

If I feel up to it I'll do something but not at my usual intensity and I stay away from gym so I don't spread my germs. I'll do a walk or some yoga and see how I'm feeling. If I'm coughing a lot or so congested I can't breathe properly, I'm out. I'm very pro listening to your body and resting when it's appropriate.

Stay the h e double hockey sticks away from my gym if you're sick. Your need to workout is not more important than my and my teammates need to stay healthy and properly peak for our upcoming comps.
