Unexplained bruises??

So recently I've noticed that I've been getting lots of unexplained bruises, mostly on my legs. I don't remember bumping into anything so just assumed it was general wear and tear but the sheer amount is a bit worrying (I counted 42 just on my legs). I take 2 multivitamins a day but was wondering if it's because I'm deficient in something specific?? Is it related to exercise? Or am I just more fragile now I weigh less (bmi around 19). Any advice? Thank you

I bruise easily too- just like that. I asked my Dr about it and showed him. He said that bruising due to deficiencies or health conditions is much more severe than that and not to worry. I'm no Dr but if you are worried I'd get a medical opinion.0

Short answer #1: If you google "easy bruising" and "undeweight" you will find out that the two are definitely associated.
Short answer #2: you seem to be hanging out at the wrong section of the community boards
You SHOULD be looking for the "fitness and exercise", "maintain weight", and "gain weight" sections ;-)0 -
Awesome, thank you. I am planning on going to the doctor just to make sure but was interested in alternate opinions.
I'm not underweight but okay I'll take the hint. I used this community to lose the weight initially and it's also the most active so I assumed I'd get a quicker response here.0 -
Glad to hear this ;-)0

I get lots of unexplained bruises too. But mostly they're unexplained because I forget I bumped into stuff
Always a good idea to see the doc when something like this pops up.0 -

I used to get a lot of bruises - fewer than you, but darker than yours, when I was overweight. I have dyspraxia, so I just assumed I got them from bumping into stuff and never worried too much. Blood tests (of nutrients, but for other reasons) were fine, but I realised later that I was severely undernourished. Now that I'm eating a lot better - and I have normal BMI - I rarely get a bruise.0

Sounds like a visit to the doctor, to get your iron checked is in order.0

See your doctor and get tested for anemia.0

Go to a doctor. I have unexplained bruises, but mine are from poor circulation and varicose veins.0

I too bruise easily. They also heal quickly as well. Mine are not caused from lack of nutrients, but when I start getting into prolonged sleep deficits, my body's ability to process those nutrients is greatly compromised, so I get the easy bruising. So, even though it's related to nutrients, the underlying cause is my lack of sleep and body's inability to function as it needs to. Hope your doctor can solve your problem...never fun seeing mass amounts of random bruises, even if they are small ones.0

Doctor! A proper doctor with an actual office, not 'Dr. Internets' LOL
Seriously, just do this...0 -
@aemw93 - if it does turn out to be anemia, headsup that there are many forms of iron supplements, and I tried four or five before finding one that works for me. I get my iron levels tested yearly.0

Get to the doctor. I tend to be low on iron and bruise easily. But your level of bruising is something else. I'm sorry, that doesn't look good.0

Um...I was covered in fat and when I first began working out and lifting I had these same unexplained bruises.
My doctor told me it was from the broken blood vessels from the stress I was putting on my body lifting heavy. Doc said keep lifting the new stress will subside and so will the bruising. It has.

I am covered in bruises but mine are from carrying around an infant carseat and manhandling a stroller. Also from constantly walking into toddler toys that weren't there a minute ago. (I stepped on Bowser once. Owww.)0

I also get random small bruises all over my body, and I am not thin... I just chalk it up to clumsiness and being quick on my feet. Either that, or I get them while working out and just don't notice. The bruises are the size of a thumbprint.0

There are lots of possible causes and its good that you're seeing a doctor. That said, doctors have been looking for an underlying reason that I bruise easily on and off all my life. After tests for everything from anemia to cancer, the conclusion has always been that I just bruise easily. So don't freak out until they tell you to.0
