Those of us who run with our dogs tend to love talking about our dogs and how much we love running with them (or maybe that's just me). Share details regarding where you run, how far, on or off leash, what kind of dog, and anything else you want to share

I run laps at a grass field about a half mile away from my apartment- the grass is easier on our feet and joints and cooler than the hot concrete. My dog, Lucy, is a 30 lb English Cocker Spaniel/ Border Collie mix. We run a little over three miles a day and most people are surprised to know that she's able to "keep up" with me for the whole three miles. If I ever think that it's too hot for her or that she's having trouble, I'll stop for a minute or two and then she's ready to go again. Unfortunately, she has to run on a leash due to the local leash laws, but I use a retractable extended leash so she can run ahead, lag behind, or wander a few yards away if she wants.

Also, I rescued her from a shelter when she was 3 months old

  • hi,I run with my 15month old wheaten terrier.he is brilliant at running by my side.We run 3 miles every other day but built up to it by doing the couch to 5k together.I run on pavements/road as well as rural tracks.I have just purchased a jogging lead from Amazon which is a godsend. One half fits round your waist with little pockets to put your phone/water/treats in and the lead comes from your waist to the dog.It is very strong and comfortable.the lead is like a bungee so you are not pulling the dog as you move up and down.My dog loves it and knows when I get the special lead out its run time. The only problem I have is sometimes he likes to stop to do his business and that can interrupt your pace or a welcome break, depends how you look at it.It is so much easier running hands free though.Wouldn't want any other running partner.
