I'm 53 5'7" and weigh 239 and want to get back to 171. I get depressed when I'm very heavy.

Hi. I'm 59, 5'6.5", started at 230, currently at 176 - I've lost 33 since starting MFP in mid-April this year. I recommend reading this thread (it's short - only three pages - my current "story" is on page three): community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10254997/40-year-old-women-and-older-who-has-lost-40-or-more-lbs-how-the-heck-did-you-do-it/p1 and this one (much longer, but lots of helpful info): community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/10047153/55-65-year-old-womens-success/p1 They should give you a lot of ideas, and a whole bunch of motivation.
Good luck.0 -
You might want to post this in the general forum.
Being unhappy with ourselves can certainly be depressing but the good news is you can turn it around.
Just be patient, take each day a step at a time.
Count your calories....move when you can (there's nothing like a bit of exercise to lift the soul )
You can do this as long as you want it bad enough.0 -
