In the past 20 months, I have gone through phases where I worked out on different days, different times and with different intervals between two consecutive sessions. On some weeks, I worked out more and on some, comparatively less.
How many of you guys follow such pattern and how does it help with your fitness goals?

In the past, I used to be far more flexible. I'd move training around to accommodate everything else. It resulted in a good number of missed sessions. Decided to set a standard training time and committed to it. While I will change for important things, I very very rarely miss a training. And the results in my lifting speak for themselves.0

At one point when my wife and I were still dating and even after we were married we'd randomly go out once or twice during the week have a few drinks and stay out late and usually Sat night too. That played hell with my training as I was inconsistent, it hampered recovery by the late nights, beverages, and then sometimes doing two sessions in one which wasn't good. Be as consistent as possible. Life gets in the way but do your best to be as consistent as you can be with when you go. If you train 4 or 5 days now, ask yourself why and if you can get it into 3 days or maybe even 2 days. I know a couple strong guys that only lift twice a week so its very possible.

I go back and forth between a Tues/Wed/Fri/Sat schedule and a Mon/Wed/Fri/Sat schedule for lifting. The Wed and Sat are always in the p.m. because I've found that my lower body training goes better later in the day. My upper body days are generally done in the a.m. because it's better for my family's schedule.
My cardio is a bit more flexible. I walk or run 3x/wk and just fit it in wherever. It tends to be during my daughter's activities so I'll take a walk with my husband while she's in dance class, walk to the university and run hills when she's at art class, etc.
It's taken a bit of trial and error to figure out the best schedule that moves me toward my goals but also considers family, work, etc. I still go back and forth in my head about whether I prefer lifting 3 or 4x/wk. I can see myself switching back and forth with that in the future.0
