Shoe Suggestions before 10k

So, I've had my running shoes since the beginning of spring and recently noticed holes forming in the top so that I can see my socks a little. The bottom of the shoes seem fine. However, I still have a few weeks of training then a 10k, which is on the 25th. Most of the time I run outside and we're getting to the rainy weather season. I could do a little running indoors to keep up with the training but still plan the 6 mile run coming up as outside.
Do I try and get new shoes asap in order to wear them enough before the 10k? Or is there a material that will work to patch up the current ones to last through this month? Or just let there be a hole in the shoes?
It's the last event of the year, then I just maintain over winter, or that is the plan. Just need to figure out if I have time (and look into the funds availability as well) for new ones or if there is a way to make the old ones last well enough since the part that's problematic is just the top material of the shoe. Thanks for any recommendations.

Personally I have three pairs of road shoes that I cycle through, replacing them at about the 500 mile point. That means I have shoes at about 150miles, 300 or so miles and 500 miles, then progress a new pair into the routine. So it might be worth investing in a new pair to do something like that.
Equally my shoes generally start to get thin at my big toes after about 150 miles and it's not an issue.
The main uqestion is, how far have you already run in them.0 -
Typically running shoes wear out long before you see holes in them. Do you have any idea how many miles/kilometers you have on them?
Since you are going to still run some over the winter it may be a good idea to get a new pair soon. Wear them on your shorter runs at first but at some point you will have to run long before the race.
On the other hand, if you are not experiencing any aches and pains due to the condition of your current shoes the holes probably won't hurt (no need to patch them).

Thanks both of you for the response. I honestly don't know how far I've used them for since I started with walking and a little bit after them I started doing couch to 5k. Before June it was just the walk/jog program and a little extra adding time since 30 minutes didn't equal a 5k. Since then I started training for 10k and had 2 other 5k runs. Doing around 11 miles a week now (short run was always just a tad over 2 miles during the 10k training). I intended to track miles when I first started walking then forgot over the months.
The staggering of shoe purchases sounds like a good idea. Need to work out my funds along with still trying to decide on shoes for lifting as I just use really old sneakers at the moment. I just wondered about the patch cause it distracts me seeing the little bit of sock, plus with the potential of rain. Though when it rains a lot on the runs I'm soaked no matter what so not like the little hole creating that big of an issue.
Luckily only aches were from leg hypertrophy session in gym followed by close freight shift, open regular shift then 5.5 mile run after work. Glad I don't do that often.0
