A question about exercise

I'm currently 148lbs and my goal is 133lbs, so I'm not massively off. I also want to tone my body as well as lose. However when it comes to exercise do I want to focus on cardio to burn calories for now or is it best to do other exercises/weights at the same time or leave it until I'm at or closer to the goal?

I have no idea whether the body burns fat or muscle first this is why I'm asking! My legs are already naturally muscly and I'm worried about them gaining more muscle when I want them to be smaller

Look into a progressive lifting program, such as SL 5x5.

I'd really suggest incorporating a good weight training programme in to your routine :)

Cardio burns calories and is good to do for all round health and heart fitness, in my opinion. Cardio will help with the 'weight loss'. Lifting weights is the fat burning key. If you are a member of a gym, seek out a trainer with expertise in lifting for fat loss and they'll put a really good routine together for you. Starting out, I did around 20 minutes cardio and 20 minutes lifting per gym session. Now I'm at maintenance, I'm focusing primarily on lifting to change my body shape from 'thin but wobbly' to 'lean'.

If you don't have access to a gym, there are thousands of amazing routines online - just google something along the lines of 'fat burning strength training' etc and you'll find lots. I switch my routine up every 6 weeks or so and use a lot of the suggested exercises listed online! :)

    Good luck!

I do both. I make sure any force workouts (trail running, biking on steep hills, etc) and weight lifting are spread apart with rest days in between to let my muscles recover. I have some cardio and long workouts thrown in that are less intense but work on improving my heart and endurance. Both have their benefits.

Do both, but pumping iron always takes priority. On days you do both, pump iron first.
