Drinks with a higher alcohol % will, however, have a diuretic effect, and it is necessary to hydrate regualarly while drinking alcohol.

I concur. Beer makes me pee a lot.

I always wonder if it's really the alcohol content of the beer that makes me pee, or if it's the fact that I can drink ~36 oz or so in a relatively short amount of time.

I mean, if you have 3 beers in 3 hours, that's more than half of your fluid intake for the whole day. Of course you're going to pee a lot!

    Only 3??

    Lightweight

    Ha...

I was making a conservative estimation there

I approve of the evolution of this thread..I'm a fantastic drunk when it comes to post drinking hydration.

Coffee is fine. I count mine in my water every day. But since I like my coffee with a flavored creamer which is usually a lot of calories, I only have 1-2 cups most days then switch over to tea. There are so many wonderful flavorful teas out there to pick from and I find that I really enjoy them with or without sweetener. Often with just 1/4 tsp of honey if anything.

All my life I've seen my father drink only 4 drinks:

    1. Coffee
    2. Tea
    3. Wine
    4. Beer

So I think that blows the diuretic argument out of the water.

In the 36 years I can remember him, I've never seen him drink juice, or water, or squash, or coke. I'm sure he must have done when there was nothing else available, but I can't recall a single occasion.

Sounds like me. That's pretty much all I drink, too.
