Thrown Out of A Dentist's Office

Has anyone else ever been thrown out of a dentist's office and told to not come back? I didn't know this was a "thing" until this past Friday.

I was at Del Ray Smiles in Alexandria, VA, where I've been going for several years. The dentist was adamate that I need to come in every 3 months. I told her that I can't come every 3 because my insurance only allows me to go 2x a year. Also when I was going every 3 before, I wasn't seeing a difference. She then told me that "ethically (I) can't then do my job properly. MAYBE you'll find someone else that will do that for you but not here. We'll have you sign for your records in the front to be sent to you. If you have any dental emergencies, we'll be here for you for the next 30 days ONLY". I was shocked. Although I have anxiety about going to the dentist, I've never bitten nor hit anyone and I've never made a scene. Ironic enough, they just moved into a shiny new expanded office too.

Has anyone else ever experienced anything like this? Please share your stories (and if you want, feel free to share my experience). Needless to say, my insurance company isn't very happy about their treatment.

    Wow that's bad!

The only thing that has happened to me was when I went for a tooth I was in pain with.... He numbed the area ( I assumed he was dealing with the tooth I was in agony with... ) I then asked what he was planning to do with my tooth.. He said he was doing a small filling on this tooth (pointing at the next tooth along!)
I then said.. I came here as I'm in agony with this tooth.. And would really appreciate it if you could deal with the tooth I'm in pain with as I can't sleep and I need sleep looking after three children. He replied ... Are you telling me how to do my job? I said.. No I'm saying I'm in pain and clearly need something done to help with the pain.. He said... No I will do this tooth today and you can come back in two weeks and I will do that one as I don't want to do the other one today... :flushed: he told me to sit in the waiting room to wait for it to numb me properly... I sat there thinking.. Then went to the desk and told them I will not be going back in as he was meant to be dealing with the main issue..but won't.. She then got him and I had to go back in.. He said "sit!" I said I'd rather stans thank you"... He said.. " So come on.. what is wrong?! " I said " honestly, I made this appointment as an emergency, because I'm in pain... I wasn't telling you HOW to do your job.. I was hoping you would just be a dentist... However your policy states about patients that are in pain will be seen to immediately.. Making me wait 2 weeks with unbearable pain.. Would you say that is humane?.. He said " bloody women tut.. Well if you're not happy with this dentist go elsewhere" he was so aggressive.. His Manner etc... Even the dental nurses looked terrified of him lol. I said " I think I will thank you!" turned and walked out.. Could hear him cursing after I left... A dental nurse came after me.. She said I'm so sorry about that.. He has quite a temper, but he said he will deal with the tooth you want sorted.. I replied with a I'd rather pull the thing out with rusted plyers than let him near my mouth :joy:

He sent me a letter of apology.. And they continued to ring and send letters even though I rang them to say I would never set foot back in there. There are others reported him for being rude, aggressive and ruining people's teeth. So glad I left.. Luckily a neighbouring dentist was able to sort it that day! .. Never went back to the old one again lol

Reminds me of a time a dentist was getting ready to deal with a cavity when he partner came in the office, and they were having quite an argument. He was yelling at this guy and holding the drill. I said -- aren't you going to give me any novocaine? And he yelled at me "I'll tell you when you need novovaine!" And told him to save it, I was leaving and he was free to fight with his partner.

Maybe you have dental work that needed to be completed or you have some situation specific to your teeth? It doesnt make sense why they would want you to come in more often if the insurance wont pay them for the additional appointments. I hate this about some drs, when drs accept to take your insurance they need to accept the terms that come with it. I hate when I go to a dr/dentist and they say yes we take your insurance and then later bill you because the insurance didnt 'fully' cover the cost. I think it should be their responsibility to look up benefits of insurance plans before agreeing to accept patients with that insurance and the nonshady drs do this.

It's been suggested to me periodically that I get a cleaning done more that twice a year, and sometime's I've gone for it because at the time, I might have had the finances to do that. But I've never heard of a dentist insisting that's the only way they'll keep me as a patient. The doctor sounds deranged.
