I'm new and I've just started counting calories. What is the difference between counting carbs and counting calories?

If someone's on some form of controlled carb diet, they would focus on carbs (but I'm pretty sure you still have to look at your overall calories in some fashion). If you're on the basic "eat less move more" plan, you count all calories to maintain a deficit between how many calories you eat and how many you burn (aka Calories In Calories Out [CICO]).
Some folks find LC works better for them, but others find basic CICO to be better for them. Regardless of how you go, there's plenty of resources to help you out here.0
