I want to try making Hummus. So I found a couple recipes online. My question is What is Tahini? I've never heard of it

Sesame seed paste. You can generally find it in health food-type stores, as well as Middle Eastern markets.

Sesame seed paste. You can find it in asian/middle eastern grocery sections, but if you can't find any in your area you can substitute a little creamy peanut butter and sesame oil. It's not quite the same, but it works.

It is basically puréed sesame seeds. It's almost like a CRAZY THICK peanut butter. It's typically in a can/jar near either the nut butters or ethnic section. -They have it at Trader Joe's for sure.

^ What they said, but I think you might be able to find it at your local grocer. I have found it near the PB! Good luck!

like someone else said...you can use pretty much any other nut butter in its place..itll alter the flavor a little but it still works in a pinch

One of my local grocery stores carries it near the peanut butter, while the other keeps it in the kosher food section.

Love tahini!! And yes its ground up sesame seeds. It is actually best to buy it "hulled" as there is something in the husk that can prevent calcium being absorbed...the husk is removed when its hulled. I eat it a lot with bananas....its a good alternative to peanut butter...i love peanut butter but its too moreish...tahini is a very strong taste...and i dont find myself wanting more then I should have

    :)
