by which I mean yesterday, but I also fell off the "get a better sleep schedule " wagon so for me it's still today. Also had a late night snack that made me feel gross. And gained weight since yesterday. None of these are huge problems but I'm still disappointed. Oh well, tomorrow will be better. Supportive thoughts please...

It's not the end of the world by any means. A single day isn't going to hurt you unless you let it get in your head.

Learn from your mistakes, make better decisions next time, and move on with life. If it makes you feel better go look at my diary for August 1st of this year. And that day, in the overall scheme of things, didn't hurt me at all.

Maybe weigh yourself once a week. Or look at average numbers instead of the day to day numbers.
All of that sounds crummy, especially about the sleep schedule. Being disappointed is normal as long as you can pull yourself back up.
It is good that you see tomorrow as another opportunity to be successful. :)

You will gain weight from day to day, even if you make every right decision. Your weight is the end product of a host of metabolic processes, most of which are outside of your control. I go up 1/3 to 1/2 of the days, but I trend downward. This is what my weight has looked like day-to-day. You can see that there's a lot of up days in there, and most were still in caloric deficit, so even though I ate right, I still gained weight.

If daily fluctuation is not something you can take, weigh less frequently.

Daily weighing is more harmful than helpful for me, for sure. I really like programmer's graph up there; it drives home why I like to weigh only weekly. Keep your chin up--one day is just 24 hours. That's a piddly amount in the course of your life!

I am collecting weights almost daily to use that app, but really without using it weighing daily has helped me realize how much a person can fluctuate day to day. And really if you don't get used to that, any schedule of weighing yourself might leave you frustrated when you shouldn't be.

As an example, look at the very start of his chart above. In exactly one week his weight was up on that one day almost 5 lbs. Probably due to water weight, sodium, clothes variables.... something that can be explained. If a person happened to way those days without an understanding of possible fluctuations, it might make them think they had to cut calories back a lot more, exercise more, etc.

1¢ - One day of being over does not sabotage you or make you a failure. Everyone has off days. Log it and start fresh the next day and you'll be fine. That is a concept that takes a while to learn, I had a lot of trouble at first. But I once I actually realized it, it was a huge load off and made things easier!

2¢ - As noted above, weight loss isn't linear. If you've been at this for a couple of months, take a look at the MFP graph for your weight loss. If you can draw a line from the start to finish and it's going down, you're losing weight just fine and you don't need to adjust your diet any.

Your weight can fluctuate up to ten pounds in a day. If you drink a 16oz water, you'll weigh a pound more, etc. You shouldn't feel bad about messing up, just move on and try harder!
