Insomnia and Probiotics

Lately I've really been suffering from insomnia. (It's been an on-off issue my entire adult life.) My step-daughter suggested I take a probiotic before bed that she says has really helped her insomnia more than ambien, melatonin, etc. So, I bought a bottle yesterday and took the probiotic with my evening meal. I also took an ambien last night before bed because I had gone days without restful sleep. Unfortunately, I was still up most of the night ... so I don't know if I'm just that messed up, or the probiotic actually interferes with sleep, etc. I know anything you introduce can take a few days to see results, but I just don't know if I'm on the right track or not to put faith in probiotic supplements as a way to improve sleep?
