so I'm on a steady workout schedule Monday- Thursday and its doing great Im tricking my muscles and it seems to be good but I'm in my third week in and Im unbelievably sore so I'm just gonna take a couple days of rest to let them heal. I know being sore is good, but do I need to be sore every week? I take fri, sat and Sunday off just for a rest period. Should I continue this path?

Soreness is not indicative of a good workout. It just means you're either A) not used to working out yet, B ) not training with high enough frequency for it go away or C) doing way more volume in a workout than your body can handle.

You don't need to trick your muscles, and you don't want to overuse them either. With no rest days between 4 days of working out you could be overusing your muscles. But, we don't know your program so we don't know what you are doing.

I lift 3x/week with rest days in-between. I am incredibly sore now because I lifted for the first time in 2 weeks, however, if I maintain my current program I will only be mildly sore after lifting and I'm still getting good results.

    Pretty much this ^

    work - recover - work - recover - work - recover - play

    is better than

    work - work - work - work - recover - recover - recover
