I think I have to write this post as I am coming across a lot of posts by members debating on a set range of calories to lose weight depending on factors like sex (male or female) and height alone. I have written a related post before and so did some other members with NSV (non scale victories) posts.

I have lost my first 5 kg/11 pounds on 2200+ calories and another 1.5 kg/3.3 pounds on 1900+ calories and still losing. I am 5'8 (172). I have never discredited weigh scale reading as it is one of the major indicators of progress. Other noticeable factors are measurements, muscle tone, improved posture etc. Now what have worked for me, may or may not work for others. Everybody has a different lifestyle, work routines, families, responsibilities etc. MFP app makes weight loss journey easier by providing a set of parameters based on an individual's inputs. Follow them and get results, simple!
Can I say if a male (5'8) want to lose weight, have to stay within 1900-2200 calories? Absolutely no! Because there are so many parameters linked with weight loss. For example, the level of physical activity, stress levels, sleep patterns, intensity of workouts, eating habits, dietary requirements etc.
Second and last comment, the end results. Who want to look like a bulimia patient or a person suffering from severe malnutrition, intentionally, at the end of weight loss journey? Most people want to look healthier after their desired weight loss. Without a healthy eating plan, it is just a distant dream.
I wish members to contribute to this thread with healthy eating advocacy.
