Anyone tried the raw food diet?

I try not to be won over by fads (no such luck apparently). The old exercise regularly and watch portion sizes trick is probably the best way to go. But, I tried the raw food diet years ago when I was first trying to control my weight, and I felt so good on it. I felt fresh, and detoxed. I was also working out an hour a day 5 days a week on the elliptical. That two weeks where I was motivated I lost 5 pounds.

Now, I was not the perfect student of the raw food diet, I had to make do on a college campus. But I did well considering. I was wondering if anyone has succeeded longer than 2 weeks with the raw food diet? Let me know.

I love raw foods and I eat raw vegetables and fruit daily. But I'm not convinced by the argument that we have to eliminate cooked foods from our diet in order to get the benefits of eating fruits and vegetables. In fact, lots of nutrients are MORE available to us when a food is cooked.

It's a fad.followed freelee for 9 months straight and came out with awful blood results compared to when I was just eating health. Don't do it you can make yourself seriously ill

Completely doing a 180 and changing the way you eat to simply lose weight is not a good plan. Just like you said...you stopped after two weeks. Why not set up a plan that you can do forever? Something similar to your current lifestyle that is easy to do. If something is easy to do you won't feel the need to stop after two weeks.

I'm not a fan of any diet which arbitrarily excludes foods or entire food groups based upon shaky pseudoscience.

I'd like to believe in Freelee's diet but... I'm more of an 'eat all kinds of things moderately' kind of person.

Losing weight is step #1. I guess you can lose weight in any manner you choose. However, the really hard part is step #2 - maintenance. Step #2 is really hard because it's forever.

Would a raw food diet help you lose weight? Maybe. Would a raw food diet help you maintain? The answer is very likely no - because you said so yourself, you have a hard time sticking to it.

The "old" exercise regularly and watch portion sizes trick is still around, even when fads come & go. There's a reason for that - it works. Controlling portions and regular exercise helps with step # 2 also. It's a good learning experience.
