Being Grateful for Our Bodies

The other day I was listening to an interview of a well respected fitness expert (can't remember who he was), and he said something that has stuck with me and I thought I'd share it with everyone.

When we see someone who's incapacitated in a wheelchair, we typically feel bad for them. We think, "How horrible it must be not to be able to move freely with your body." We know that it's a bad thing to not be able to move, yet most people dread exercise and activity. We take for granted the blessing of being able to run, bike, stretch, and dance. Seems pretty ungrateful, doesn't it? Why do we not want to get up and move when we would do almost anything not to lose the gift of mobility?

We should be grateful for our bodies and exercise them. Our bodies want to move, that's what they're designed to do. To be sedentary in life is to waste the gift of a fit and able body. That's why we should look forward to and enjoy exercise, and not look at it as a chore. I also think it's important to appreciate how far you have come and not dwell on how far you have to go.

Just something to think about..

I could not agree more. We definitely take things for granted, until we lose them. Then we realize their value when it's too late. Good idea to remind ourselves every day that we are blessed with the ability to move and exercise and we should take advantage of it.

It's the obese people using mobility scooters that gets me. How dreadful it is to eat yourself into the inability to even walk easily! It was a huge (pardon the pun) motivator for me to get moving and lose the weight.

I was 32, over 300 lbs and I couldn't move far or fast, but slowly and surely I worked on weight loss and fitness. I am grateful every day for the body I have now that can run, jump, climb and lift heavy things. I've lost 155 lbs and I never knew before that simply moving could feel this good!
