What gym do you go to?

I've been scouting out gyms around my hometown of Las Vegas, and I wanted to get some feedback on MFP people's experiences with gyms. I'm particularly curious about Planet Fitness, but would like to know what else is out there.

The gym I go to is my art studio. I prefer to workout at home, but as far as gyms I've heard good things about Lifetime (I have no idea if they're in Vegas). But yelp might be a good place to look. That way you could find a good one in your neighborhood.

I went to Planet Fitness years ago and it's not bad for what it is. Lately though, I've been doing more home workouts

Can't help with the location, as I am in Sydney Australia.

However, I drive past one gym in order to get to mine.

Things I look for in a good gym:

    Convenient opening hours
    Weights room
Space, I can't stand being crowded
    Spin classes
    PT available if needed
    Pleasant staff
    Reasonable price

The one I drive past is small and poky, I went in nice to check it out and they were rude to me. I left, didn't even get a price on membership.

Good luck!! Hope you find a great gym!

Currently at Fitworks and I hate it. The workers are very rude and don't take care of the gym. I signed a year contract that will be up in August (I'll be switching). I went to the YMCA for awhile, only compliant for them would be the price. I only used the gym but paid for the pool, the basketball courts, etc. The Planet Fitness by me seems to always be packed, but I've heard good things about them.

I never hear anything positive about Planet Fitness; they're a joke in the weight lifting world.

Their lunk alarm is infamous: http://youtu.be/PQ6OrO1f610

I go to 2 gyms, one of which is PF and I cannot really say anything positive about it. I know people have choices, but the PF I go to has bagels/donuts one morning per month, pizza night once per month, and a HUGE container of tootsie rolls at the front desk! How does that promote a healthy lifestyle? The only people I ever see eating tootsie rolls are the ones who could stand to lose more than a few pounds.

More importantly, the gym itself if dirty and the equipment is not maintained very well.

I'm also in Las Vegas, and though I don't have a great recommendation of where to go, I will say that you might want to avoid Las Vegas Athletic Club. One of my friends used to work there (in the recent past) and he said that they are pretty shady in terms of signing you up for long contracts and even, in some cases, charging your credit card even after you've cancelled. He quit because he felt that his managers were unethical and that the company's practices were questionable. Not sure if all LVACs are this bad, but it's something to consider.

Well my planet fitness is brand new! So it's the cleanest gym I've ever seen. Lean but not mean is right they do have those food days, which when I saw them I was wtf I'm trying to stay away from those, but overall it's okay. It not for "experienced" gym goers or weight lifters but rather for the average person. I enjoy it and you can't beat the price.
