Just make sure you are eating healthy and keeping active while you're pregnant, and any weight you gain will be just what is needed for your baby. It will come of afterward! I was active at the beginning of my pregnancy, but starting in the second trimester, I stopped exercising, and started eating whatever junk I wanted. I firmly believe I would have bounced back quicker after having my daughter if I had stayed healthy during my entire pregnancy.

I have a friend who just had her 2nd baby a couple of weeks ago. She ate healthy and exercised all the way up to the day she had her son. She was back in her pre-pregnancy clothes a week after giving birth! I don't think that's necessarily a realistic expectation, but it shows that staying healthy can pay off!

I think you should talk to your PCP about this and see if they think a referral to a dietician or maybe even a little counseling is in order.

I applaud you for addressing all of this before the fact.

If you have a history of eating disorders, definitely talk to your PCP.

I lost a ton of weight after my second child was born. I found an amazing step aerobics and body sculpting class that I loved and went religiously 3x a week. It was my me time! I got down to a size 6/8 and I looked good and toned. After about 3 years of looking and feeling great, I found out I was pregnant with #3. I've never had an eating disorder but I was almost psychotic about weight gain. I counted calories, I asked my doctor to figure out how many I needed for healthy pregnancy and did my step class as long as I could, then I walked everywhere as long as I could until the last trimester. The nurses had to weigh me standing backwards on the scale so I wouldn't see the numbers, and I asked them not to tell me my weight. My baby loved my efforts, he stayed in 12 days later than he should have and I had to be induced. He ended up being my biggest baby, due to my healthy food choices and exercise. I had a serious medical condition after his birth so for 3 weeks, I rarely ate or slept and lost my pregnancy weight. I also learned the hard way what was important.

That was no way to enjoy my pregnancy, I regret that I was so psycho about it and when I got pregnant with my fourth child a few years later, I talked to my doctor about what happened before and she kept an eye on me. I didn't slide back to the bad habits, but my doctor was prepared to refer me to someone if I did.
