Is it just me? As I am losing weight I look like/think that I'm gaining..

I have lost a little over 10% of my body weight so far and have gone from 225 to 198. However, at this point every time I look in the mirror I think that I'm getting fatter and I'm convinced my scale is wrong. Is this happening to anyone else? And is this all in my mind or can you actually look fatter while you're losing weight?

Compare a picture of you now to before.
Take measurements.
It's probably mostly in your head. Some days I feel and think I look a bit fatter than others. For me it's typically bloating or just in my head or some combination of the 2.0 -
While the scales are usually not the best indication of what's going on (once you start putting on muscle etc), but it sounds like you're just so used to having negative thoughts when you do look in the mirror that you've come to expect it. As shadow2soul suggested, taking progress pictures and recording and tracking your measurements is the best way to get an actual gauge on what is going on.
How regularly are you weighing yourself? Generally once a week is more than enough because you weight will fluctuate, but weekly will get the general downward trend so that you don't beat yourself up every time you gain a teeny bit back (it happens!)
Photos and measurements monthly are a great progress tool. Just remember - you NEVER have to show anyone your photos! So don't be embarrased by them. However, once you reach your goal you probably will anyway because you'll be so proud and rightfully so.
And congratulations on losing 27lbs so far! That's a huge effort!!
Good luck x0 -
The mind does stranger things than the body, in my opinion.
I have lost around 32 lbs and I still look in the mirror sometimes and think "Woah, I look bigger than usual today". This lasts a matter of minutes because rationality tends to kick in and I remember that I've lost a load of weight so it's not actually possible that I'd look bigger when I am in fact, a lot smaller. It takes the mind a LOT longer to catch up with weight loss than the body.
You need to trust in the process, believe in the scales and congratulate yourself for working so hard. Each time you look in the mirror, find something you really like about yourself and repeat it over and over and over. Do this daily. You're doing great0
