I added running, and it felt so good!

My favorite form of exercise during this weight loss journey has been long walks (average about a 4.2 minute mile for 4-6 miles). I did notice that the walks were getting easier and my time getting shorter. Last night I added in bursts of running. By the end of my workout I ran about 2 miles out of the 4.5 mile trip. And it felt GOOD! I was energized and ready to keep going. Unfortunately it was getting so dark outside that I could no longer see the sidewalk and I needed to get the kid to bed, but I'm ready for more!

I feel like I have reached a point where my body is HAPPY with the torture I'm putting it through. Ha!

This makes me feel extra good since I have been on a plateau after losing 25 pounds with only 10 pounds left to go.

Wait, I meant 4.2 miles per hour, NOT a 4.2 minute mile. Ha ha! That would be impressive now wouldn't it?

That's how I started. Long walks, followed, after a time, by short jogs (1/4 mile) and walks (3/4 mile) followed, after a time, by 1/2/by 1/2 walks jogs, followed by 3/4 jog by 1/4 walk etc. Until now I can go 4 miles at a sub 11 minute per mile pace and walk the last 3/4 as a cool down. Don't forget to warm up and cool down properly. Static strectches after you're done.

    Just keep on truckin'

I'm in the same boat! I recently added light jogging to my walks (I too enjoy long walks) and wow, I can feel a difference, not just physically, but also psychologically. Never thought I'd be running again! And I was surprised at how not challenging it was; I was in better shape than I thought!

Thanks for the post. I had to give up my zumba class for awhile due to work. It's HARD to get moving again, but I know I really better do it. So you motivated me.

that's great! I started running again in September. I am still slow as molasses but I don't care! I love how I am seeing progress so quickly.

Fantastic! I started much the same way. After months of power walking I was talked into running a 5k and surprised myself by actually being able to do it. Now I run 35+ miles per week.
