A shot glass isn't a good way to measure food. An ounce of food is a weight measurement. You're using a liquid measure, which is totally different.

There are liquid & solid measuring cups. I don't mix & match these for cooking.

Liquids are great measured in ounces, your shot glass should be ok. But, solid foods not so much. Look for a set of (solid food) measuring cups at the dollar store. Then look for entries (in MFP) that match 1 cup, 1/2 cup, 1/3 cup, etc.

The best measure of all will be a digital food scale.....that's where some of the solid food entries (in ounces) come from. Many people use a food scale.

I got my first food scale at target for about 10 or 15 bucks so that's a good start. I do use a shot glass to measure out a nice single malt scotch on occasion.
