You know, GNC employees are told their first duty is to try to sell you GNC products. It means bigger profits for the company. They will try to talk you into taking supplements you don't need just to get a nice bonus check from the company (I was hired and quit because their tactics go against my morals). They basically ripped you off.
Here's objective information about CLA: http://examine.com/supplements/conjugated-linoleic-acid/
GNC Burn 60 is basically just a bunch of natural sources of caffeine. It would be cheaper to take caffeine pills.0 -

This is the THING that is responsible for your weight loss....not the pill. You are giving the pill way too much credit.
Supplements are not regulated - advertisers can make any claims they want to.0 -

Actually, supplements cannot make unsubstantiated "disease claims." However, "burn fat" would not fall in that category.
http://www.berkeleywellness.com/supplements/other-supplements/article/supplement-claims-whats-allowed
...However, the law does limit the claims made on supplements’ labels and on the Internet (even in testimonials and website links). With only a few exceptions, they cannot assert that the supplements treat or cure disease. They may make only “structure/function” or “health maintenance” claims. Here are some examples:- A label can say “helps improve your mood” but can’t say “reduces depression.”
- It can say “maintains a healthy circulatory system” but not “prevents cardiovascular disease.”
- It can say “maintains cholesterol in a healthy range” but not “lowers cholesterol.”
- It can say “supports the immune system” but not “helps prevent colds and flu.”

If you do not already have one, take the money you were willing to spend on un-regulated, un-substantiated marketing hype and spend it instead on a digital food scale. Now that is something that will actually aid fat loss.0

Lift heavy weights using a structured program. Eat at a reasonable calorie deficit. Hit your macros. Be consistent and patient.0

The thing is, they work for me. When I first purchased them everyone here was against supplements because of possible harmful effects and no actual help. But my body reacted to them in a good way. Tonalin CLA definitely increases my body temperature and I don't get cold even in cold weather, which makes me feel like 'it is working' so psychologically I feel good about it.
Burn 60 Definitely works. Maybe it doesn't work as a 'fat burner', but as someone quite depressed and out of energy, it pulls me together, and when it is time for gym, it gives me energy to achieve my daily 500 calories goal in an hour on the elliptical. Without it I wouldn't have survived a week with this workout routine.
So I like them. Not every metabolism may show same results, but it showed a good result on me. Today I will stop by at the GNC again and return an unused bottle to buy something new, possibly Thermo CLA, but I also like my Burn 60, so I might just get a bottle of Waterex, though I have doubts on it I want to observe if my huge tummy will get smaller when I get rid of the retained water. I just hope it is not an harmful product.0 -

I've tried one in the past so I'm not judging but please keep in mind that a lot of these pills can be dangerous. Pick any popular one and look up its side effects and possible dangers. In the end it is not worth the risk.0

Definitely not trying to be mean, but this sounds an awful lot like placebo effect. I've seen other posts of yours regarding diet and exercise and you seem to be doing pretty well there. Personally I'd want to give credit where credit is due, and praise your hard efforts with those two items and not pretend that some pill from GNC was responsible for all of your hard work and success.0 -

I just replied to previous comment on their uselessness.
Personally myself, I was sold as a natural bodybuilder on supplements due to the fact that I was hearing it second hand from gym bros and GNC. Till I researched correctly and found out that most of them offer more of a placebo effect rather than the effect claimed.
We'd all like to think that we weren't duped in to purchasing something we thought would be beneficial, but it happens. Happened to me when I was spending $200 a month on supplements to build up.
Granted there are some that make you feel like you have more energy, but that's just a stimulant being ingested (usually high amount of caffeine) and can be obtained for a cheaper price.
If SAFETY is your concern then here's something you may want to hear: 90% of the supplements out there are manufactured by 3rd parties. Hardly any distributor/sellers will manufacture their own supplements. Since it's through a 3rd party, PROFIT is the main goal. So these 3rd parties get their raw materials as cheap as possible. And a lot of it comes from China which has no regulation on purity of raw material. Contaminants aren't "sifted" out by the 3rd party, so it's not unusual to have many supplements with trace amounts of contaminants in them. Some with even steroidal properties. Part of the reason why some athletes legitamately fail drug tests.
So unless you're absolutely sure the products you're taking are contaminant free (look for US supplement manufacturers), you may not be as safe as you like to think.

CLA doesn't increase body temperature. That's not what the science says and that's not even a side effect of taking a dose large enough to do anything. If anything you're feeling warmer because you are allergic to something in the GNC Burn 60 (which is actually very commonly reported about that product).0 -

LISS - Low Intensity Steady State - cardio.
Your body relies on constantly returning itself to a very small window of balance. Anything strong enough to actually move that so that you burn more calories would be too dangerous to sell without a doctor overseeing its use.0 -

Interesting comment. I was recently listening to a radio show on health and spirituality and they were discussing the general "placebo effect." Everyone was in agreement that it has an undeserved negative connotation. If you swallow a skittle whole every day and it makes you feel like you have more energy and thus motivates you to eat well and workout, I say take that skittle every day.
The difference here, of course, are the dangers outlined above in the manufacturing process and the cost. Skittles are cheaper and they're regulated by the FDA. Still, though, I think your point is a valid one. I never thought I could lose weight without diet pills when I was in my 20s. Then I tried, and I lost at the same rate, and I didn't feel jittery or worry that I was going to have some kind of cardiovascular complication.0 -

Everybody who takes up a dedicated workout program finds that they can lift more weight, run farther/faster and go harder, whether they take supplements or not. It has nothing to do with the supplements (other than maybe the aforementioned placebo effect) and everything to do with the fact that your conditioning is improving from the workouts (you're getting in better shape!). Give credit where credit is due - to the workouts and to your dedication, not to some bogus pills.
If any of the commercially available "fat burners" actually worked, they'd fly off the shelves so fast that you'd never be able to get ahold of them and the price would go through the roof. Everybody wants a magic pill that lets them lose weight effortlessly without all that yucky, hard calorie restriction and icky sweat. Unfortunately, it doesn't exist. The only place you lose weight from buying those "supplements" is in your bank account.0 -
I agree that fat burners are a waste.0

Here's objective information about CLA: http://examine.com/supplements/conjugated-linoleic-acid/
GNC Burn 60 is basically just a bunch of natural sources of caffeine. It would be cheaper to take caffeine pills.
I just hope it is not an harmful product.
Definitely not trying to be mean, but this sounds an awful lot like placebo effect. I've seen other posts of yours regarding diet and exercise and you seem to be doing pretty well there. Personally I'd want to give credit where credit is due, and praise your hard efforts with those two items and not pretend that some pill from GNC was responsible for all of your hard work and success.
It may be a placebo effect, but knowing myself before using those products I always got dizzy at the gym and always did a half hour of cycling (because it would make me sit down and be slow) and left gym feeling in guilt. Now I don't get dizzy, I feel powerful, and I push my limits. Feels amazing!
