Please be aware of caffeine consumption during pregnancy

Options
I have researched scientific studies and I would agree that there is relations between caffeine consumption and the risks of low birth weight, premature birth, birth loss -
The fetus is completely dependent on mom's nourishment. When you're pregnant your body needs more of everything. More of carbs, protein, calcium, folic acid, iron and zinc and of course more vitamins. Caffeine is a diuretic and mild laxative which accelerates digestion - not giving your body enough time to absorb the nutrients and minerals you and your baby needs. especially when drinking caffeine with meals. Imagine what is doing to your baby. The higher levels of caffeine consumption the higher the risks. Also pregnant women have slower caffeine metabolism and it's easily transmitted across the placenta. The fetus at this time does not have the capability to produce enough enzymes to metabolize caffeine.

Please be aware of the risks and be conscious what you put in your body. There are many ways to prevent this. Drink caffeine free tea or decaf coffee. Instead of pop, there is water or natural fruits juices.

If you are pregnant, get advice from your dr, not random strangers on the internet :)

I only wish that my consumption of caffeine had effected the birth weight of my second kid. at 9 pounds he didn't seem aware that he was suppose to come early and small due to my "slight" coffee addiction.

I still drank caffeine when I was pregnant. But I lowered my intake significantly. I thought Coke Zero was caffeine free. Whoops. It's not. I still enjoyed diet colas and half-caff coffee, along with an occasional regular coffee. My baby came out perfectly fine.

Your body does not need that much more of everything when you are pregnant, you aren't really eating for two. I was on a carb-restricted diet while pregnant that was monitored by my doctor and a specialist. I also drank caffeine and had GD. By all theories I should have had large children--one ended up being 6 lbs 9 ounces and the other was 6 lbs 9.5 ounces.
