So I went to the Dr. Had a episode of feeling dizzy and light headed, and was told I am dehydrated. A kidney blood test came back slightly elevated. My question is how do I MAKE MYSELF DRINK MORE WATER?? I Don't really have much of a thirst anyways, and I struggle with getting enough fluids in me. I like water but feel bloated and uncomfortable if I am forcing it down. Any advice?

Is there something else you like aside from water? Or maybe you could increase your fluid intake by eating fruits/veggies with a high water content.

I personally just drink 90 ounces while at work. I drink most of that amount when I eat lunch and have my afternoon snack. I also have a job where I talk a lot so I get thirsty.

Don't gulp, sip. Keep a water bottle on hand and just take a sip whenever you notice it there.

Unless there is actually something wrong with your kidneys, proper water consumption will actually reduce bloat.

I'm not much of a sipper, so I get my water intake by periodically chugging a glass here and there throughout the day. I do it when I wake up, again mid-morning, before lunch, after my workout, mid-afternoon, when I get home from work. By spacing them out, I don't feel waterlogged and getting them down in a hurry makes the process less painful than staring at a huge jug and thinking about how long it will take to sip my way to the bottom. I feel much better when I'm adequately hydrated.

I keep a 32oz cup with a straw at both home and work. I find that I drink a lot more when using a straw.

this. I brush my teeth and then gulp down a whole glass of water. Do the same thing when I am standing near the kitchen sink. If you don't enjoy it might as well get it over as fast as possible.

I am at risk of getting dehydrated, so I have to watch that I get enough liquids in. I always have a water bottle with me. I have a drink first thing when I get up, a cup of tea when I get to work, and a water bottle to sip throughout the day. I have another water bottle that I keep beside me in the evening. I can't gulp, so sip it is.

I change the flavour of the waters with tea, Mio, Crystal light, anything to keep it interesting.

Once I got used to drinking a ton of water, I craved it. Initially I did use a bunch of flavor things. Now I don't even bother with them or adding fruit. I got to have my 100-140 oz of water a day or I sleep poorly and my skin starts to look old.

Do you have a particular fruit you like? You can always add fruit to water for flavor. I hate drinking plain water, but slice up half a lime or lemon every day and down about 42-63oz that way per day.

Some people get a stomachache if they drink very cold water. Maybe you could try drinking room-temperature water to see if that eliminates some of the discomfort?

I set up a plan / timing - like every 30 minutes drink X amount of water, or every hour drink X amount of water. Set up a reminder using your email / phone / watch... my FitBit vibrates and I drink water. Only problem is the amount of bathroom breaks! LOL!

Some of these suggestions reminded me of an issue my mother had: You say you feel bloated when you force yourself to drink or that sometimes your stomach hurts. That might be because you are gulping too much air. Make sure you are drinking from a glass or a bottle with a large mouth. Don't use a straw and don't chug, as they both cause you to swallow a lot of air, as well. This can especially be an issue for anyone with stomach problems.

I also suggest Mio or some other additive, I have often used lemon juice in the past. My method is to schedule water drinking times. I know at x:xx time, I have to refill my water bottle. In order to refill it, I have to empty it first. After refilling it, I then have 2.5 hours until the next scheduled refill. It works for me, but ymmv.

I had the same sort of problem :]

I was working out quite a lot, losing weight consistently but drinking far too little. I started to get very dizzy and started seeing black spots in my vision. I was also dehydrated. I make sure I take a bottle of water everywhere with me and take small sips when I feel a little 'dry'. It's really helped. Once you're in the habit, it'll become easy! :)
