Hey, I have been suffering from this for more than a month now, having taken tablets from the doc, and am now seriously considering changing diet. I am waiting for an appointment for a camera to go down and see if there is anything there, but in the meantime, should I be considering a certain diet, ie alkeline diet or something?

I have stopped the coffee, just realised i shouldnt be having peanut butter, what else shoudl I do?

does anybody have some experience in this please?

I have severe acid reflux. I take a 24 hr prevacid OTC and I don't have to worry about anything. I was taking the expensive prescription prevacid but now they have it OTC and its cheaper.

i tried Omeprazole 20mg for 4 weeks now im on Esomeprazole 40mg, but was wondering whether my diet was not helping either. I have IBS as well so wondered whether it was worth a shot

I had this for years and ended up having surgery about 7 years ago. Best decision ever.

No coffee, alcohol, smoking, chocolate, tomato products, no raw veggies, nothing spicy, no garlic, no juice, nothing acidic, only small amounts of liquid at a time, nothing 4 hours prior to laying down, and less than 20g of fat /day.

if I followed that, I had a 50:50 chance of symptoms. I always had liquid in my throat, the medication just reduced the burning.

I'm sure there were other things I cut out. The fat limitation was the hardest part and the main reason I had the surgery.

I am going through the same thing right now. I have had 1 camera done, with severe irritation and swelling in my throat and larynx, to the point my voice is changed and scratchy. I have been given Tecta 2x a day (double the regular dosage) to decrease the acid in my stomach, going back to the ENT residents clinic on Thursday for another scan to see if they can see what's happening for sure. They told me to stay away from apples.... Other than that though, nothing else has been restricted, only reduced.

The meds that were to only treat the symptoms after the fact didn't work for me. However now I have to watch when I eat since the meds I'm on decrease the acid, it takes longer to break down my food.

Stupid thing is they figure it was my change in lifestyle and exercise that have triggered it.... LOL can't win...

    Good luck.

    Do you smoke?

I used to have issues with it years ago, and the doctor said the worst things for acid reflux are coffee, chocolate, (red) wine, red meat and smoking (all the things I loved most at the time, unfortunately).

Nope I dont smoke. I have cut out coffee, as i think that was making me worse. Its just getting annoying now so want to try and help it go as much as poss. Im getting a tight chest and bad throat every morning, i tried to sit up in bed, but it was quite uncomfortable.

i think this time stress triggered it, but unlike last time, it just doesnt want to go. Just been looking into the diet and peanut butter is out :(:(

    thanks everyone for your replies

Rather than sitting up in bed, put something under the legs at the head of the bed. My hubby put a 2x4 under the feet and it has helped at night.

Mine was definitely diet related. Anything greasy or with a tomato base was the worst for me. I take prescription Prilosec. Once I changed my diet, it fixed itself. I would google it, there's got to be some suggestions out there for what you should and shouldn't eat. I just know what worked for me. I'm on a high protein diet now, I eat mostly protein and drink lots of water and have no issues. I also no longer snore after losing 49 lbs.
