I saw that program and found it a bit disappointing. They showed the enormous lengths people could go to to cook meals that have say 10% less calories in it - all the time I was thinking "why not just keep it simpler and eat 10% less?"

The Fat vs Sugar Horizon program I found far more interesting - where identical twins are put one on a high fat, and the other on a high carb diet - and the results are monitored.

As I recall the first part of it was quite interesting, but it was the latter part that annoyed me - undercooking the steak so it required more calories to digest - for heavens sake just eat a smaller steak!

But under-cooked steak is so delicious =(

Right? I still haven't forgiven my mother for all of those years of my childhood telling me that it must be well done.

What your mother meant was if it's cooked well it gets digested properly that's why the nomads cooked food before eating

Nope. What she meant was that's how she likes it so the rest of us had to eat it that way.

I thought it was the opposite.. The more well done meat is the harder it is to digest??

Yup. My mom likes steak well-done too. Luckily my dad likes it rare (and insisted his be cooked that way), and my sister and I thus were able to experiment and realize we like it medium rare to rare also.

No clue about digestion/calories, except I don't seem to have any digestive problems with steak.

I heard about the twin experiment on a podcast, but this show sounds interesting, so I will check it out.
