When to increase weight?

I'm doing SL 5x5. The program calls for adding weight for every successful workout for a given movement. I'm at the point where I'll fail once or twice at a weight the be successful. Is there any harm in changing this to being successful twice (or 3 times). This failure then success seems awful taxing.

I don't really understand what you are saying. You are failing to get all 5x5 at a weight twice then lift it successfully on the third workout? If I am not mistaken that is part of the SL programming, if you fail three times in a row you do a re-set. How long have you been on the SL program and is it only one lift you feel you are stalling on?0

I've been doing it since May. It's gotten to that point on all the movements. I'm just asking if there are any reason why I couldn't slow the progression down. This constant failure/success pattern has become quite taxing.0

I am not familiar with the strong lift program but I do heavy compound lifting. 4-6 reps in sets of 3. When I can lift 6 times repeatedly I add weight. If I start to lose my form I drop back down for a week. It works well for me.0

You can always slow down the progression, drop the squats and deadlifts to 5 lbs a week or even do a planned de-load/reset.0

Another question. When you experience soreness after lifting, I know you should give it a few days rest. However, my soreness could last a few days to a week. Should I continue lifting through the pain to gain muscle? Sounds dangerous to me. But if I don't keep the pattern, the muscle won't tone and get bigger right?0

It really depends on what your doing. SL5x5 has a specific protocol to follow for incrementing and pulling-back, so I would just make sure to follow how it's spelled out. I would say that when you reset, don't be afraid to go back maybe even a little lighter than what the program says.0

You could always transition to an intermediate program (madcow is probably the closest to SL) that doesn't try to progress quite so rapidly. Or you could pick up a couple of 1.25lb plates on fleabay and progress in 2.5lb increments instead of 5.0

Yup
Are you using the app? I thought I read that it will actually tell you what to do (next time) if you failed.
Following the protocol.0
