Milk: low fat or whole fat?

I just like the taste of whole fat milk better and I believe my body also needs that kind of fat. But I wonder if it blocks to lose weight to drink whole fat milk or eat whole fat milk products. Thoughts?

    It just adds calories to your daily total. As long as you are within your limits, there's no problem with it.

    FWIW, I've never been a believer in the low fat diet nonsense. Within the past 10 years there has been plenty of evidence to suggest the whole low fat notion was a bad idea from the start. I personally switch between 2% and whole milk depending on my goals (weight loss or maintenance). I also use real butter and even use lard sometimes.

    Drink whichever you prefer but make sure you account for the calories and macros. I drink skim milk but that is because I prefer the taste. Whole milk and even 2% taste too thick to me and coat my mouth. On the other hand, I always eat full fat cheese and dump a little 1/2 & 1/2 in my coffee. I really don't taste a difference between full fat and non-fat yogurt so I go with the non-fat to save myself a couple of calories.

    As long as you count the calories, whole milk will not affect your weight loss.

    Drink what you like and have the calories for. I drink skim because I grew up on it and prefer the taste. Drinking whole milk will not make you lose weight any faster or slower than any other kind of milk.

    I can't stand low fat or skim milk so I only use whole. It has not hindered or hastened my loss at all.

    Non-fat or low-fat dairy is an easy way to cut back on calories, but the full-fat stuff won't stop you from losing weight. As long as your overall calorie intake is less than your body requires, you will lose weight, no matter what you're eating.

    It cannot stop you from losing weight. Eating/drinking too much is the only thing that can halt your weight loss.

    I don't really track my fat intake. But, I drink 1% milk because my calorie goal is very low at the moment.

    This is the reason behind why the ketogenic diet is high fat and no/low carbs. Fat in your stomach tells your brain that you are full. Carbs in the stomach make you feel more hungry. In the end of the day it's all about calories. Beyond the other advantages of the ketogenic diet it helps those people who have less self control.

    In my experience with it i lost 60 lbs in two months.

    Same here.
    I use almond milk in smoothies, but everything else is whole or 2%. Sometimes I even splurge on half and half for my coffee.

    Good, most of the time I am in my limits. I am trying to make it happen "always"

    @loxety what you say about the ketogenic way of eating can be true for many people. I lost 30 pounds in 12 months. While for an 800 pound person he may safely lose a pound a day for 60 days straight yet it can be a dangerous rate for many people.

    We become unhealthy typically before we become obese.

    As to milk now if I drink any I prefer the 36% milk at Walmart that is $16 a gallon to stay away from the sugar.

    I always go for whole fat dairy anything. Simply fills me up more. As a result I will have less and enjoy it more

    I bought the low fat hype, I believed fat was "empty calories", and I always struggled. Now I go for full fat (meat & dairy) and an overall varied diet, and finally I feel satisfied from food. I don't have the unruly cravings for sweets and salty snacks anymore.

    YMMV. Some feel better on full fat, others can save some calories by cutting fat. It's all about calories.

    I wonder how the idea that it can "block" weighloss came from, though.

    I drink whole milk because that's what my kids drink and I never go through a smaller container of lower-fat milk quickly enough. Plus it's delicious!

    Can't really put if better than that! I have skimmed because I drink a lot of it - cereal and two protein shakes a day. If it was just a drop in my tea/coffee I'd have full fat.

    Probably from the fat free craze of the 80's and 90's. We were told that fat makes you fat. This is simply not true. Just as we were told that cholesterol causes your cholesterol levels to rise. Another "fact" that was never true.
