MFP no longer tells you you've eaten too little when you eat over 1000 no matter how low your net weight is. So as long as I'm consuming around 1200, I shouldn't need to eat back any exercise calories right? Or is this entire 'plateau if you don't eat enough' a myth anyway?

Plateauing from not eating enough is a myth, unless you don't eat enough for long enough. Then you'll plateau all right.

Two very different questions. The jury is still out on just why people plateau. Nobody has the answer for why that happens. Weight loss experts are in agreement that it happens, but they don't know why, for sure. Many MFP posters don't believe it's a real thing, so you may hear that it doesn't exist from the non-experts.

Whether MFP has the computer lecturing people or not shouldn't make any difference. You should eat enough that you feel healthy and strong. It's very hard to cram in all your vitamins and minerals on 1200. Trying to do it on 1000 calories is even harder.

Follow the amount of calories MFP gives you and see how you do. Eat those extra calories. Odds are good that you'll lose weight! While I wouldn't sweat a day over or under my goal, I wouldn't set the goal really low just to lose the weight a little faster. You want to do this the healthy way, right?

It really sounds like you might benefit from a visit to a dietitian. Next time you have your physical, ask about a referral. Or just call the office and ask for one. You'll learn a lot and will get a plan that is tailored just to you, with your specific goals and preferences included.

It really is the best 30-60 minutes that you'll spend on your diet!

NO, you should be eating 1200 as a minimum, without exercise. If you're exercising, assuming you're using MFP's calculations, you should be eating at least half of those calories.

    1200 + exercise = your net

MFP is designed to eat back your exercise calories. The winner get's to eat the most and still lose.
