Snack Mix?

I am a sweet tooth person, but I can't be biting into Cookies, Cakes, or Sugary items anymore. I want to make a snack mix that balances sweet and salty without undoing my day. I also need it to be kid friendly so my son will also enjoy it. I have a few things in my cupboard that I need to use up that can be my base, but don't really know what else to add. Any suggestions are helpful. Thanks!

Things I have:

White Chocolate Chips
Walnuts
Raisins

I was thinking:

Granola
Pretzel Sticks

Nuts and dried fruits (like raisins) are a good choice--but sometimes they can be VERY calorie-laden, so watch out! You might also want to experiment with dried papaya and mango (look for the kinds that don't have any added sugar).

And you might also try pumpkin seeds in place of the nuts. They'e a lower-calorie alternative to nuts, and you can spice them up either savory or sweet, depending on your whims. I buy the bulk unsalted in-the-shell pumpkin seeds (or "pepitas"). Take about a cup and rinse and drain them just to get them wet, toss them with spices, and then dry them in a low (~225 degree) oven for 45 minutes or so. Some favorite spice combinations include:
    * 1 TBSP of GOOD dark cocoa powder and about 1 tsp of sugar (wetting the seeds is essential to help slightly dissolve the sugar and make the cocoa stick to the seeds)
    * even proportions of curry powder and garlic powder (about 1 tsp each)
    * chile powder, cayenne pepper, and lime juice

The cocoa ones are REALLY good in a snack mix with a bit of something else salty

Thank you! I wouldn't have even have thought about the added calories that nuts would bring. I will be checking labels for sure. Also the pumpkin seed ides sounds like something I will give a shot to.

Dark chocolate chips or semi-sweet are a nice bit of sweet without overdoing it. Watch the carbs & sugars in pretzels. I started buying the whole wheat pretzel rods and they're a lot better for you. White chocolate can get up there because it's made from oil, but of course moderation is everything. Chex cereal is a pretty good alternative as well & multi-grain cheerios! :)
