Any Type 2 Diabetics Out There??

As if being short and fat isn't bad enough I am cursed by my own doing of having Type 2 Diabetes.

My last A1C was down to 7.3 (a gift from God believe me). Prior it was in the 10's, then 9's, then 8's. There have actually been times I have cancelled appointments with my endocrinologist because I have been afraid of what my A1 was as well as her reaction. Has anyone experienced this??

My internist has set me up with a nutritionist. I had been there before but got so confused when I was back home reading labels and trying to figure out fat contents as well as types that I essentially figured I would 'fly solo' which has turned out to be a bad choice.

Does anyone else other than me get hungrier after exercise??

Does anyone have any good ideas of what low carb foods to eat that actually fill you up??

I will say though that there is nothing like a large warm plump and juicy home grown tomatoe!

It sounds like your A1C is going in the right direction, just not as fast as you would like.

I am prediabetic, and I follow the low carb advice in Dr Bernstein's Diabetes Soultion book. He is a diabetic who is a leader in the field at normalizing blood glucose, even in T1Ds. I highly recommend his book.

He does suggest a low carb diet and has some good hints. The main one is that fat does not affect blood SUGAR. Replace carbs with fats and adequate protein, and chances are you will be satisfied. A low carb diet will be a low calorie diet if you don't replace your carbs with something - fat.

Add feta and olive oil to your tomato and you are all set. ;)

My T2 is in remission now due to significant weight loss. Can you promise me one thing? No more skipped tests, skipped appointments. In this case there is no bliss in ignorance. A therapist suggested to my weight loss group that anxiety is at least as dreadful as knowing, so why not go through the pain once?

I never went low carb and I was still able to control my sugars. What I did do is never eat my carbs alone. The plate image really helped me get in the habit of balancing my meals.

I get hungrier after exercise. Half a protein bar or half a protein shake seems to be enough.

Fats are low carb and fill me up quickly.
So peanut butter with an apple.
    An egg.
Celery with laughing cow cream cheese.
    Hummus or cheese with crackers.
    Edamame.
    Salad with vinaigrette.
    Nuts.
