Any advice on hiw to deal with the temptation and not overeat?

Willpower. Also don't arrive hungry. Eat something before like a small snack to avoid any strong urges0

Hi. Is it the networking and socializing you are looking forward to or the canapés ? If it were me, I would eat before I go so I'm not hungry, enjoy a glass of wine (or sparkling water) and not worry about the canapés. I don't care for them, generally, and I rather dislike trying to make a meal out of cocktail food. I might take a little something if it looks exquisite, but realistically, that's seldom the case. If you absolutely love canapés, an altogether different approach is in order.0

Use moderation, be conscientious and have a great time.0

Eat a snack before you go.
Alternate sparkling water and wine.
Only have irresistible canapés.
Curled ham sandwiches can be passed over, grilled prawn, mini cheesecake- eat, that would be my preference. You do yours.

This. And if you think it's going to be carb/fat heavy, try eating a protein filled snack before heading out to keep you feeling more full and it will help you hit your macro goals for the day.0 -
Thanks guys for the help- much appreciated! I've prepared my meals for the day and I've packed some snacks to help keep me full like you suggested!
I guess I should focus on having a good time and the networking aspect of it rather than the canapes moving around.
thank you0 -
If I was networking I wouldn't want to be doing so with a mouthful of pastry/bread so yeah I'd eat first and just have a drink that was easy to log. If you're moving around the room chatting with different people, no-one will know whether you've eaten or not, and it's unlikely anyone will call you on it anyway.0

I find buffets/canapes a nightmare! It's so easy to lose track of what you're eating and how much, but at the same time, don't worry so much that you cant enjoy yourself! Maybe set a few calories spare so that you can enjoy and have a few? Something I do when at events/parties with buffet style food is to get one plate and then leave it at that. Rather than getting bits and pieces and snacking my way through the table, I just portion out what I want onto a plate and once it's gone that's it. This may be harder for you if it's canapes as I'm sure they probably wouldn't appreciate you taking the whole tray in the name of 'control' but may be something to bare in mind in other similar situations!0
