Can't Stay Motivated

I am starting over once again! I have a hard time staying motivated with my exercise! I have a Garmin Which keeps me motivated to get my steps in. I need to increase my cardio!

    You can do it, a little everyday adds up when there are 365 of those in year. Make them positive and the changes will come.
    People will ask why your doing it, and then they will ask how can they do it. Good luck to all of us....

    I am totally lazy and easily tempted by food (and Guinness!) so.... I have to find a reward system to stay on track -- just like a puppy or child -- I give myself little rewards that are non-food related. Sometimes new workout clothes (I'm talking TJ Maxx not spendy brands) or a new workout DVD or even something little like a magazine. Or set up a bigger goal and save up for something like new running shoes (if that's your thing) or new bathing suit,.

    Also, take pictures and measurements in the early stages. because it is easy to lose motivation when you don't have a clear account of what you shape you were in to begin with. For example, the scale could say you lost only 1 pound after a lot of hard work, but then you have a written and photo record that in addition to the weight, you have also lost inches and you look better in your clothes.

    I also find it necessary to find "fun" exercise because I just can't go to the gym. I can't. I find it tortuous. So I try a whole bunch of different workout ideas.

    Also, since I am easily...lazy, I don't put myself in a strict workout schedule like: Monday: biceps and shoulders, Tuesday: HIIT, Wednesday: whatever....
    I just make a mental commitment to do something, anything.
    So I either run, do yoga, fitness blender, kettebells, pilates, walk, trampoline, hula hoop or whatever...

    I know that this is not ideal but it has helped me maintain a sense of loyalty and commitment to working out. Whereas a rigid schedule makes me want to quit. :/
    With my approach, I know that I am never going to be a fitness model, or Cross Fit game woman, or champion hula hooper, but whatever...at least I am doing something...

    I have found if I go over 1 day without doing some kind of exercise I feel like I'm climbing a mountain to get back on track. I highly recommend every other day at first & then work your way up. You don't have to kill yourself, because if you are too sore you will put it off even more. I also recommend working out in the morning before work if possible.

    I agree with beachouse7. Don't actually make a specific plan of what you have to do. Just make a commitment to do something, anything, every day. One day you could take a fun group X class, the next day yoga, the next day lift some weights, the next day go for a nice walk, etc. I suggest to get up in the morning and think about how your day is going to go in terms of activities, plan your physical activities around that and plan your nutrition around that.

    Also... for great cardio try zumba or any other kind of dance. OMG... so much fun and such great women and you don't even feel like you're exercising... just moving to the great music! :smile:
