motivation

Hey so I just need help getting the right motivation. basically when I was 17 I weighed about 124 pounds at 5'5. Now I'm 19 and have gained probably 40 pounds. IM ONLY 19 I don't know what to do and how to get the right motivation to lose that weight that I gained. I'm terrified that I let myself go at only 19

I seriously doubt that you have let yourself go... Life happens... Start with your food... Stick with a good array of healthy foods... Check in the food and nutrition section... Don't go for drastic diets... Slow and easy will build habits that will last you a lifetime...
Start exercising if you don't already... If you can shoot for a combination of lifting and cardio... Example I lift 3x a week 45-1 hour, cardio 2x a week 30-45 minutes and generally walk as often as I can... The goal should be to be healthy... So don't workout until you drop... Once again this should be a plan for a lifetime...
    You will do great !

Yep, good advice from @FeenixFlashfire. Also, can you pinpoint exactly what the cause of the weight gain was? Being less active? Eating differently or just larger quantities? Identifying that part first and then making amendments from there is helpful.

Start accurately logging the food you eat now and see where your strengths and weaknesses are. This is a long-term trial and error process. Just stick with it. Also, be as active as you can. At your age being active and healthy should come fairly easily.

"Probably" - first get accurate readings. This will help you going forward. Then as mentioned above log as accurately as possible. Looking back at your logs gives a good picture of where you are and then you need to figure out where you want to be.

Start now with keeping track of your food. Yes, logging is a pain in the *kitten*, but it doesn't have to be forever. Use it to relearn what normal portions of food are, which is a skill that will carry you through the rest of your life. Don't obsess over your food right now either. Don't get so focused on eating 'right' that you refuse to eat out with friends or grab the occasional slice of cake or cookie. It's not hard to fit those in your daily goal, and if you go over, one day over isn't a problem.

Also, find some activity you like doing that burns calories. I'm not saying 'exercise', but something where you're moving around a lot. Any kind of sport would qualify, not just going to the gym or walking. Getting in the habit of keeping active now will help you control your weight later in life. I know for me, I was always underweight until I got a desk job. However, once I got that desk job, I stopped doing active things but didn't change how I was eating, which is what caused my weight gain. If I had added some kind of exercise or activity then, I would never have need to lose weight.
